As writers, we all have dreams—some grandiose, some modest—but we all have them.
I always ask my coaching clients where they want to be in 5 years. Here are some terrific examples:
- I no longer need my day job, but I’ve kept it because I enjoy it.
- My healing words have helped many people in my large audience.
- I used to merely attend writing retreats and conferences, now I’m the keynote speaker.
- The novel I just released is being made into a movie.
- My dream of living on a boat in a warm climate has come true.
Where do YOU want to be?
I call this your Grand Vision. For best results, it’s good to have a Grand Vision for several time periods along the way, for example, where do you want to be in 30 days? 1 year? 5 years?
The shorter the time frame, the more concrete your goals.
I know the wheels are turning in your head, so it would be great to hear what you’re coming up with. Tips: Don’t overthink it! Make sure it sounds realistic to you, but at the same time, allow yourself to dream big.
Now that you’ve thought of your Grand Vision, do you belong to any communities that will support you in achieving it?
Here’s one for you: the Better Writers Club. We’re a group of writers who are dreaming big and making it happen, one day at a time!
As a Club member, you’ll have a Daily Action Calendar for step-by-step guidance, a Success Journal to track your daily achievements, writing prompts to get the words flowing, and e-mail encouragement along the way.
It’s a powerful way to hold yourself accountable to your writing dreams. Today, take the very first step on the exciting journey that lies ahead. Launches June 1st!
Once you’ve signed up, please share your 5-year Grand Vision with us by adding a comment below. Be sure to phrase it as though it’s already come true (for example, use “I am” instead of “I want to be” and “I have” instead of “I hope to”). This makes it more real!
Here’s to all your writing dreams, big and small.
I’m Timothy Pike, self-publishing and productivity coach specializing in helping you publish beautiful books on Amazon and in your local bookstore. The (brand new) Better Writers Club launches June 1st, and you’ll be able to pre-enroll soon with an invite code, which you can request here.
