  1. Do not write a book, write a first draft! I have found that it is more important to get my ideas down on the page than to try writing in a particular order, that is, chapter by chapter. I write my first draft fast, rough and ready. Once I am happy with it I go back and turn it into a second draft, which is much more composed and organised. All my good ideas survive this process, the poor ones do not.
